Trevor Jacobson was a character that I thought of as a combination of my Uncle Trevin and Elliot Alderson’s character on the TV show Mr. Robot. I tried to base Trevor and Daisy’s relationship on how my uncle, and I felt about each other. My mom had me at a young age, so her younger brother and I grew up in more of a sibling dynamic – but we are exact opposites. He is a night owl and hates talking to people and I wake up at 7am and have always been a social butterfly. My uncle has had his best friend since childhood be an active, important part of his life and I tried to imagine how his demeanor would be if he hadn’t had that bond of a strong friendship, and that’s how I wrote Trevor. I then added in the aspects of Elliot Alderson in that he is insanely intelligent (though my uncle is also very smart) and is trying to take down some form of evil corporate overlord. Trevor Jacobson, at the beginning, wants to be alone and quietly do all of this illegal, money laundering, social justice kind of work. But what he really needs, is a friend. Someone to talk to and eat pizza with. He needed a companion, which is where Daisy comes in. I wanted to create a branch of the story where Trevor was able to achieve both his want and his need, but I loved the idea of that being a path that could only be accessed if that original bond with Daisy had been created. That bond gave Trevor extrinsic motivation to protect her and allowed him to realize what his true need was in his life, which was an important moment for him.

I decided on the story beats for this game by pacing out how quickly Trevor and Daisy’s friendship was going to develop. I decided to take a large chunk of the rising action to allow Trevor to explore the different options he had for sidekick/companion options (and hopefully make the best decision!). I wanted the ending to be a bit more fast-pasted, but in a way that would still allow for suspenseful and slower moments scattered throughout. I also tried to eradicate the use of the back button so the viewer would have to complete gameplay regardless of the choices that they had made until that point. I tried really hard to get the reader’s interests to align with Trevor’s, I wanted the reader to see him briefly in his daily life and to get a sample of the kind of person he is. I tried to make his personality shine through for three main aspects: his antisocial habits, the kindnesses he provides to the people around him/his protective instinct, and the fact that he does it all anonymously – he takes no credit. I really felt that by the player knowing these things about him, they would see the intentions behind his actions and want him to be successful throughout the rest of their gameplay.

I hope you all enjoy the game! Thanks so much for playing!
